Paintings by Natalie Fitzwilliams
Born on June 29, 1907, she was the daughter of Colonel George Stratford Mardall, OBE, and Helen Jura Campbell McEwen.
She received her education at the Michaelis School of Art at the University of Cape Town, sharing the Michaelis Prize in 1928.
Her art studies included working with London portrait painter Percival Small.
She exhibited her work in Cape Town in 1938 and 1963, and had a permanent exhibition at the Mount Nelson Hotel. She also exhibited in London.
Her artistic focus was figurative portraiture and flower painting, utilizing oils, pastels, and watercolours.
During the Second World War, she served as a war artist at the Admiralty, Whitehall.
She married Robert Fitzwilliams on August 19, 1948, in Cape Town.
She passed away on September 24, 1965, in Cape Town.
